Features of light scattering coefficient and aerosol particles in the urban atmosphere of nagoya
Abstract Continuous measurement of light scattering coefficient was made with an integrating nephelometer for about 2 years in Nagoya, a large city near the sea. Optically effective aerosol particles were collected on some occasions. Light scattering coefficients larger than coincided with high concentrations of sulfate particles of optically effective size. Although the mean of light scattering coefficient showed a high value of 2.7 × 10−4 m −1 in Nagoya, light scattering coefficients less than 0.5 × 10−1 m −1 were observed 3 per cent of the time, usually associated with strong summer or winter monsoon wind. Instead of sulfate particles, sea-salt particles dominated the optically effective aerosols in the case of very low light scattering coefficient.
