Ratcheting take-up device
RATCHETING TAKE-UP DEVICE A ratcheting take-up device (1) that compensates for imperfect alignment in a tie rod continuity system in the frame of a building wall. The upper ends of the tie rods (24) are tightly clamped within the take-up device (1) by domed segments (2) inserted in a bowl-shaped housing (26). The segments (2) are also forced together by a compression member (46) in the housing (26). The domed shape of the segments (2) and the bowl shape of the housing (26) cooperate so that the segments (2) can rotate in any direction to accommodate tie rods (24) that are not perfectly vertical, without a corresponding loss of strength in the connection.
