The specification discloses a door handle mounting structure (10) having a mounting plate (16) with a defined first outer perimeter (20) and a plurality of retainer openings (19), each retainer opening (19) cooperating with a threaded fastener (18) which, in use, passes through a transverse door opening (12) to engage with a cooperating mounting plate on an opposite side of the door (11), the mounting structure (10) further including an adaptor plate member (17) having laterally extending arms (34) extending outwardly of a perimeter edge (29), the perimeter edge (29) being an outer edge of a ring portion, that in use, overlies the flange region (21) of the mounting plate (16).
