A safety guard apparatus (30) is provided for use with a portable building (10) having a roof (16). The apparatus includes a guard component (32) having a safety barrier portion (34). An attachment component (36) connected to the guard component is detachably connectable to a connector component (18) fixed in relation to the building, such that the safety barrier portion is adapted to extend adjacent to the roof. The attachment component includes a channel (38) and the guard component includes wheels (46) for sliding along the channel to enable the guard component to move along the building. The guard component is rotatable between an operational position adjacent to the building and a released position in which it extends away from the building.
