A spacer shim (70) for locating between adjacent ground engaging tools (20) of a work implement (12) for an earth working machine (10) is disclosed. In embodiments, the spacer shim (70) includes a shim body (71), a shim upper protrusion (74), and a shim retention surface (75). The shim body (71) includes a shim first leg (72) and a shim second leg (73) spaced apart to form a shim slot (76) for receiving a lip (16) of the work implement (12). The shim upper protrusion (74) extends from the shim body (71) and is adjacent to the shim first leg (72). The shim retention surface (75) extends between the forward end (81) and the shim upper protrusion (74) and is configured to contact a bottom surface (53) of a portion of an adjacent ground engaging tool (20).
