Abstract A child proof safety handle that can be retrofitted to existing cabinets. A cavity in the top of the handle houses a spring-loaded button. A metal shaft is attached to the button and passes through a hole in the cabinet door. At the end of the metal shaft attaches a standard M4 threaded screw. The threaded screw connects into a spring loaded self-closing latch mechanism, which positions behind a bracket preventing the cabinet door from opening. As the button is pressed it depresses the threaded screw, which moves the latch mechanism clear of the top bracket screwed into the cabinets wooden frame, allowing the door to open. The handle button has a resistance to pressing provided by the tension of the springs underneath it. The spring tension is high enough that it's difficult for a small child to press the button and release the threaded screw from its latch, but an adult or teenager can do so easily. 3 o 113 ill -1 103
