The invention discloses a water permeable brick prepared from rare earth tailings. The water permeable brick comprises 100wt% of a base material, 0.1 to 0.15wt% of a binder, and 19 to 21wt% of water; the base material is composed of 40 to 65wt% of rear earth tailings, 29 to 54wt% of rear earth waste residue, 3 to 10wt% of low temperature sand, and 3 to 7wt% of black mud; the rear earth waste residue is waste residue obtained via kaolin extraction of rear earth tailings. The invention also discloses a preparation method of the water permeable brick prepared from rare earth tailings. According to the preparation method, full utilization of waste resources is realized; production of the water permeable brick is realized at a low cost; rear earth tailings are taken as raw materials so as to obtain the water permeable brick which is high in strength and water permeability, and is suitable to be used as a green environmental-friendly building material of city squares and pavements; and it is beneficial for promotion of resource utilization of rear earth tailings.
