The invention relates to a damper for a building. The damper solves the problem that a damper for the building is poor in stability. The damper comprises a cylindrical hydraulic cylinder with a cavity inside; a front cylinder cover is arranged at one end of the hydraulic cylinder, and a rear cylinder cover is arranged at the other end of the hydraulic cylinder; a piston body capable of dividing the cavity into a first chamber and a second chamber is arranged in the hydraulic cylinder, and one end of the piston body is connected with a first piston rod penetrating the front cylinder cover; the end of the first piston rod is connected with a first knuckle bearing, and the other end of the piston body is connected with a second piston rod penetrating the rear cylinder cover; the rear cylinder cover is connected with a second knuckle bearing, and a first channel and a second channel which are correspondingly arranged are axially formed in the piston body; and a one-way alternating on-off mechanism is arranged on the piston body. The damper for the building has the advantages of being simple in structure, good in stability, easy to mount, rapid and convenient to mount, small in mounting space, small in low-speed motion resistance, high in energy consumption efficiency and good in sealing performance.
