The invention discloses an outer wall external hanging thermal insulation system and a construction method thereof. The outer wall external hanging thermal insulation system comprises a thermal insulation plate and a hanging piece which fixes the thermal insulation plate on a foundation wall body, wherein the thermal insulation plate comprises a standard thermal insulation plate on a wall surface, an L-shaped thermal insulation plate arranged at an corner of the wall body, a U-shaped thermal insulation batten installed at the top of the outer wall external hanging thermal insulation system and used to block the top of the outer wall external hanging thermal insulation system and a stepped thermal insulation batten installed at the bottom of the outer wall external hanging thermal insulation system and used to block the bottom of the outer wall external hanging thermal insulation system. The outer wall external hanging thermal insulation system is simple in structure, good in stability, free from wet construction on site, convenient and quick to construct, and high in safety, fixes the thermal insulation plate on the hanging piece through a simple mechanical occlusion connection mode, achieves efficient and quick installation of the outer wall thermal insulation plate, firmly combines the thermal insulation plate and the wall body together, guarantees safety and reliability of a connection, and greatly improves construction quality and prolongs use life for the outer wall thermal insulation plate. Additionally, a certain space is arranged between the wall body and the thermal insulation plate, a sealed air interlayer is formed, a thermal insulation function is achieved, and thermal insulation effects of the outer wall external hanging thermal insulation system are enhanced.
