This honeycomb filter, which has a first end surface and a second end surface, is provided with: partition walls forming a plurality of passages; and a catalyst carried on at least a portion of surfaces of the partition walls and/or at least a portion of the interior of fine pores. The plurality of passages include: a plurality of first passages having second-end-surface side ends thereof sealed; and a plurality of second passages having first-end-surface side ends thereof sealed. When the composition ratio of elements in the partition walls is represented by composition formula (I), namely Al2(1-x)MgxTi(1+y)O5 + aAl2O3 + bSiO2 + cNa2O + dK2O + eCaO + fSrO, the relations 0 < x < 1, 0.5x < y < 3x, 0.1x <= a < 2x, 0.05 <= b <= 0.4, 0 < (c+d), and 0.5 < {(c+d+e+f)/b} 100 < 10 are satisfied.
