The invention discloses a gunning material for kiln repairing, and a preparation method thereof. The gunning material comprises 37-41wt% of dead burnt magnesia, 56-61wt% of forsterite, 1.0-1.4wt% of borax, 0.4-0.6wt% of an inorganic salt, 0.2-0.4wt% of sodium tripolyphosphate and 0.4-0.6wt% of sodium hexametaphosphate. The gunning material adopts forsterite and dead burnt magnesia as main raw materials, and is prepared through the following steps: crushing magnesia and olivine, screening, adding borax, the inorganic salt, sodium tripolyphosphate and sodium hexametaphosphate, and fully stirring. The gunning material prepared through the above formula has the advantages of high adhesive rate, good stripping resistance, fast sintering speed, erosion resistance, scour resistance and small high-temperature expansion when the gunning material is applied to a kiln and thermal equipment.
