The invention provides a method for preparing a building thermal insulation material through composition of maize straw and magnesium oxychloride cement and belongs to the field of building thermal insulation materials. Agricultural residues such as maize straw and the like are used to the greatest extent, magnesium oxychloride cement, an emulsion and an auxiliary additive are added, and then the building thermal insulation material is prepared and can be used for meeting demands of urbanization and new rural construction. The typical agricultural residues, namely maize straw, are used, magnesium oxychloride cement, as an inorganic bond material, and some auxiliary additives are employed, and then the large-scale utilization problem of maize straw is solved. According to a preparation technology, the pouring forming process is adopted, proper maintenance is performed, and the composite building thermal insulation material is formed. The building thermal insulation material mainly has a thermal insulation function and also has a better mechanical property and fire-proof, water-proof and corrosion-proof functions. The fire-proof function is realized through the inorganic bond material, namely magnesium oxychloride cement used for bonding the maize straw, the thermal insulation function is realized through the added maize straw, and the water-proof function is realized through the added EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) emulsion.
