The invention provides a method for solving urban road traffic jam. The method is as follows: a traffic roundabout is arranged at a crossroad, driving pavements are arranged in east, west, south and north directions of the traffic roundabout, underpasses are arranged under the traffic roundabout in the east-west direction and in the north-south direction respectively, and the traffic roundabout and the underpasses form a three-layer structure. The inlets of the underpasses are arranged in the driving pavements. Each driving pavement is equipped with twelve lanes numbered as A to J from right to left in order. For all the vehicles driving on the driving pavements, vehicles turning right drive in the A and B turning-right lanes, vehicles turning left drive in the D turning-left lanes, go out from the J and I turning-left lanes going out from the traffic roundabout after going into the traffic roundabout and turn left, vehicles going straightly enter into the underpasses from the E, F, G and H underpass inlet lanes and go straightly, vehicles go in corresponding lanes, the driving speed is raised, and the problem of urban road traffic jam is solved through above arrangement.
