The invention discloses an insulation board for a building external wall. The insulation board is prepared from the following raw materials in parts by weight: 35-50 parts of modified polyphenyl granules, 150-200 parts of Portland cement, 10-25 parts of polypropylene fibers, 25-50 parts of medium-temperature coal pitch, 150-200 parts of methylbenzene, 2-5 parts of sodium bicarbonate, 3-5 parts ofhydrotalcite, 1-10 parts of an adhesive and 3-15 parts of a waterproof agent. The invention further discloses a preparation method of the insulation board for the building outer wall. The modified polyphenyl granules can greatly improve the thermal property and weather resistance of the mortar, the polypropylene fibers can achieve a toughening effect, and the foam carbon can enhance the strength of the thermal insulation board, so that the thermal insulation board prepared by the method has excellent crack resistance, weather resistance and thermal insulation property; the technical problem that in the prior art, foaming needs to be conducted under the condition of 7-10 MPa in the foamy carbon preparation process, and consequently the foamy carbon cannot be continuously used for industrialproduction is solved.
