The invention discloses a composite material and a preparation method thereof. The preparation method comprises the following steps: preparing a carbon fiber material; preparing a carbon aerogel precursor; preparing a magnetic ion solution; mixing the carbon fiber material, the carbon aerogel precursor and the magnetic ion solution to obtain a mixed precursor; carrying out magnetic stirring treatment, ultrasonic treatment and culture on the mixed precursor to obtain a polymer; and carrying out replacement treatment, carbonization treatment and first activation treatment on the polymer to obtain the composite material. The composite material obtained by the preparation method has good absorption and shielding effects on visible light, infrared light, laser and millimeter waves.
