The invention discloses a mine slag based aerated building block and a preparation method thereof. The method comprises the following steps: carrying out ball milling on mine slag, quick lime, basaltand water, screening with a 100 [mu]m sieve mesh to obtain a prefabricated material, adding cement and gypsum into the prefabricated material, and uniformly stirring to obtain slurry; stirring sodiumbentonite, ammonium bicarbonate powder, an emulsifier and water, performing spray drying, heating at 60-70 DEG C for 1-2 h, adding cationic starch and water, grinding, then performing activation at 105-115 DEG C for 20-30 min, drying, and screening with a 100-mesh sieve so as to obtain a cationic starch-bentonite complex; and uniformly mixing the slurry, the cationic starch-bentonite complex, a sulfonated melamine formaldehyde resin, lignin fibers and water, carrying out mold pouring at a pouring temperature of 40-45 DEG C, carrying out pre-curing for 20-40 min, demolding, cutting, and carrying out steam curing to obtain the mine slag-based aerated building block.
