The invention provides a landscape engineering material and a preparation method thereof, the landscape engineering material is a granular material, and the granular material comprises an inner core,an intermediate layer coating the surface of the inner core, and a shell layer coating the surface of the intermediate layer; raw materials of the landscape engineering material comprise the followingcomponents in parts by weight: 120-140 parts of muck; 20 to 40 parts of perlite; 10 to 30 parts of a binder; and 90-120 parts of water. The landscape engineering material has strong water absorption,high water retention capacity and strong mechanical properties, and can be widely applied to the construction of urban garden landscapes.
