The calcined gypsum coagulant is gypsum obtained after drying and ball milling; the content of attached water in the gypsum is 0, and the content of crystal water of the gypsum is larger than 17 wt.%; the grade of the gypsum is 80% or above (the grade of the gypsum is equal to the product of crystal water% and 4.78); the specific surface area of the gypsum is 2000-5000 cm <2>/g. The preparation method of the calcined gypsum coagulant comprises the following steps of: drying gypsum; and carrying out ball milling. With the calcined gypsum coagulant provided by the invention, the defects of long time consumption during the low-temperature drying of the gypsum and difficulty in control during the high-temperature drying of the gypsum can be eliminated; the control of the crystal water ensures the effective components of the coagulant, and the problem that the stability of a coagulation and the strength and cohesiveness of plates are influenced when potassium sulfate, waste plates or trimming wastes are used as the coagulant in the prior art is solved.
