The composite quartz sand filter material is composed of quartz sand-based foamed ceramic and nano bismuth oxide loaded on the quartz sand-based foamed ceramic, wherein the porosity of the quartz sand-based foamed ceramic is 60-75%, and the quartz sand-based foamed ceramic comprises the following components in parts by weight: 50-60 parts of quartz sand, 10-15 parts of diatomite, 5-12 parts of fly ash, 5-12 parts of kaolin, 5-8 parts of boronoxide and 5-8 parts of calcium carbonate. The invention also provides a preparation method of the composite quartz sand filter material. The composite quartz sand filter material provided by the invention has the characteristics of integrating adsorption, filtration and photocatalysis, has strong adsorbability and high pollutant removal rate, and overcomes the defects of small pollutant adsorption variety range, small adsorption force, insufficient adsorption capacity and the like of a single quartz sand filter material.
