The invention discloses a steel structure spherical joint positioning auxiliary device and a positioning method. The device comprises a supporting body, a lifting drum open at the top, and an extension device used for adjusting the height of the lifting drum; a positioning block is arranged at the bottom of the supporting body; the lifting drum is arranged at the upper end of the supporting body;a groove is formed in the opening at the top of the lifting drum and is for placing a spherical joint; a holding plate which can move up and down is arranged inside the lifting drum; an elastic memberis arranged between the holding plate and the bottom wall of the lifting drum; when the spherical joint is placed on the groove, the bottom surface of the spherical joint presses the holding plate; an indicator board which penetrates through the side wall of the lifting drum and extends out of the lifting drum is fixedly arranged on one side of the holding plate; a slide groove is formed in the side wall of the lifting drum and is for the indicator board to mode up and down; and the extension device is connected with the supporting body and the lifting drum. The device can precisely positionthe spherical joint to the position of a designed coordinate.
