The invention discloses a preparation method of low-cost plastering gypsum, which comprises the following steps: calcining desulfurized gypsum to obtain beta-semi-hydrated gypsum, uniformly stirring the beta-semi-hydrated gypsum with causticized white sludge, and uniformly stirring the mixture with hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose, lignocellulose and protein powder with ultrahigh gel degree to obtain the low-cost plastering gypsum. According to the low-cost plastering gypsum, imported rubber powder and a retarder which are high in cost do not need to be added, causticized white mud slag and protein powder with the ultrahigh gel degree are adopted for replacement, the strength of the plastering gypsum can be achieved, the cost is low, and the shrinkage cracking phenomenon can be prevented.
