The invention belongs to the field of thermal insulation building blocks and particularly relates to an external wall insulation building block and a manufacturing method thereof. The external wall insulation building block comprises an external wall panel and a thermal insulating layer on one side of the external wall panel; the thermal insulating layer has a porous structure and is obtained through sequentially mixing and temperature rising firing of a connecting material, inorganic substance microparticles and organic matter micro powder; during the temperature rising firing process, the connecting material fuses, but the inorganic substance microparticles do not fuse, the fused connecting material enables the inorganic substance microparticles to be mutually bonded and formed, at the same time, the inorganic substance microparticles and the external wall panel are integrally bonded, and the organic matter micro powder has pores after being fired during the temperature rising firingprocess, so that the thermal insulation building block with the porous structure is obtained in this way. The external wall insulation building block can directly replace the prior art to mount the building blocks, the external wall decoration panel, a thermal insulating layer and other multiple-layer structures in a layered manner to form a wall building block structure, so that the constructiontechnology is greatly simplified, and the construction speed is increased.
