The zirconium oxide ceramic contains zirconium oxide, alumina, cerium oxide, erbium oxide and/or neodymium oxide, and optionally niobium oxide and/or tantalum oxide, and does not contain yttrium oxide. According to the invention, the zirconium oxideceramic provided by the invention has a chromaticity Lab value which is displayed to be positive red, and can have high compactness and high impact resistance when subjected to compactness and drop hammer impact tests.
