The invention provides an intelligent sweeping device and method suitable for a sanitation vehicle. The intelligent sweeping device comprises a controller, a distance measuring module, a servo mechanism and a sweeping device body. The controller is electrically connected with the distance measuring module and the servo mechanism. The servo mechanism is in driving connection with the sweeping device body. The distance measuring module detects distance information from a vehicle to the boundary of a road and transmits the distance information to the controller, and the controller sends a motioninstruction to the servo mechanism according to the distance information, so that the sweeping position of the sweeping device body is adjusted. The transverse sweeping position can be automatically adjusted in the vehicle running process, so that a driver does not need to pay attention to the distance between the sweeping device body (or the vehicle) and the road boundary, and an automobile steering device does not need to be adjusted constantly.
