The invention relates to the technical field of quartz powder, and particularly relates to quartz powder and a preparation process thereof. The quartz powder is prepared from, by weight, 70-80 parts of natural quartz powder, 12-24 parts of feldspar powder, 10-20 parts of titanium dioxide, 5-10 parts of zinc oxide, 4-8 parts of calcium sulfate, 3-12 parts of sericite powder, 5-15 parts of a rare earth material, 12-18 parts of montmorillonite and 8-12 parts of aluminum oxide, wherein the modified quartz powder is prepared through a series of steps of grinding, sieving, forging, crushing, mixingand microwave treatment. According to the invention, the quartz powder is modified, and titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, a rare earth material, montmorillonite and aluminum oxide are added into the quartz powder, so that the smoothness and strength of the ceramic can be improved.
