The invention provides a road surface tamping device for road construction. The device comprises a bottom plate, two sets of walking wheels are installed at the lower end of the bottom plate at intervals, linkage wheels are coaxially installed on the two sides of one set of walking wheels, and cams are coaxially installed on the two sides of the other set of walking wheels; according to the road surface tamping device for road construction, through the transmission effect of the linkage wheels and the cams, the device drives a tamping block to ascend and descend while walking, and the technical effect of tamping while walking is achieved; a transmission nut is driven to operate through meshing of a worm wheel and a worm, so that adjustment of a feeding screw rod is achieved, the initial distance between the tamping block and the road surface is conveniently changed, and different tamping requirements are met; a plurality of buffer rods and buffer springs are uniformly distributed between a base plate and a bottom plate, so that the vibration impact of operation of the tamping block is effectively reduced; and a warning board is rotationally installed on one side of the bottom plate, the warning board is driven by an eccentric wheel to swing in order, and the operation safety is improved.
