The invention discloses a traffic organization design method for passenger and freight separation by reconstructing and expanding an expressway. The method comprises the following steps: setting a traffic solid line between new and old expressways for a ramp-free road section; all the trucks are transported and pass through the newly-built expressway, and all the passenger cars transport and pass through the existing expressway; for the entrance ramp section, traffic solid lines are arranged between the new expressway and the old expressway, and a section of traffic dotted line is arranged on the traffic solid line close to one side of the newly-built expressway; the ramp converging passenger cars need to converge into the existing expressway at the traffic dotted lines for transportation and passage; for an exit ramp section, the traffic solid lines are arranged between the new expressway and the old expressway, and a section of traffic dotted line is arranged on the traffic solid line close to one side of the existing expressway; and the off-ramp passenger cars need to be driven out completely through the newly-built expressway at the traffic dotted lines. The expressway passenger and freight separation is realized, the traffic conflict can be effectively reduced, the traffic efficiency is improved, and the infrastructure of the existing expressway in the reconstruction and extension project is fully utilized.
