The invention discloses a cast-in-place box girder edge protection structure and a construction method, the cast-in-place box girder edge protection structure comprises a bearing beam and cantilever formworks, the cantilever formworks are located on the two sides of the bearing beam, a plurality of vertical supporting rods and inclined supporting rods are arranged between the cantilever formworks and the bearing beam, the cantilever formworks are provided with guardrail structures, and the guardrail structures are connected with the bearing beam. The guardrail structure comprises a flange template connected with the cantilever template, a plurality of handrails are arranged on the flange template, and a connecting square timber is arranged at the interval of a plurality of handrails. A cantilever structure support is fully utilized as a bearing structure of the guardrail and is combined with cast-in-place box girder construction, and a guardrail protection structure and cast-in-place box girder overall construction are combined and integrated. The guardrail structure is supported only on the top face of the cast-in-place box girder through the cantilever. After being impacted, the guardrails are mutually counteracted through self structures, so that the influence of horizontal force on the lower bracket is avoided, and the safety is better.
