The invention relates to an independent footpath brick and a construction and maintenance method. The footpath brick comprises a lower panel, a filling layer arranged on the lower panel, a buffer layer arranged on the filling layer and an upper panel arranged on the buffer layer; a front side plate is arranged on one side of the filling layer, and a rear side plate is arranged on the other side of the filling layer; mutually corresponding connecting holes are formed in the lower panel, the filling layer, the buffer layer and the upper panel; and a connecting rod is arranged in the connecting hole. According to the invention, stable contact between the footpath brick and the soil matrix is realized; by arranging the buffer layer, the walking comfort of pedestrians is improved; the footpath brick can perform double reinforcement on the footpath bricks, effectively solves the problems of loosening and shaking of brick bodies caused by foundation instability, and has the advantages of small maintenance workload, good maintenance effect and the like.
