The invention relates to the field of traffic facilities, and discloses a lifting column for protecting pedestrians, which comprises a base mounted underground. The upper end face of the base is flush with the ground, lifting cavities are symmetrically arranged on the left and right sides in the base, lifting assemblies are arranged in the lifting cavities on the left and right sides, and fixing blocks are arranged on the lifting assemblies on the left and right sides. The lifting assemblies can drive the fixing blocks to ascend and descend. According to the lifting column for protecting the pedestrians, when the lifting column is impacted by a vehicle, breakage occurs between the lifting column and the fixing blocks, then a supporting rod is unlocked, after the lifting column is impacted, the lifting column can be supported through the supporting column, impact force can be reduced to a certain extent, meanwhile, impact force of the lifting column can be increased, and a shielding effect on the pedestrians is achieved; and meanwhile, a sliding rod and an air bag are ejected instantly to shield the space below, so that the pedestrians are protected, and the pedestrians are prevented from being hurt by the vehicles and sputter generated by collision.
