The invention discloses an aluminum oxide ceramic material and a preparation method thereof. The preparation method comprises the following specific steps of adding nano carbon material particles into an ammonia water solution, and carrying out ultrasonic dispersion to obtain a nano carbon material suspension, performing water bath, dropwise adding 20-40 parts by mass of the nano carbon material suspension into 100 parts by mass of an aluminum salt solution, and meanwhile, performing uniform magnetic stirring to obtain a mixed liquid, standing and aging, centrifugally separating, drying a centrifugal product, heating and preserving heat to prepare nano core-shell structure particles, and adding aluminum oxide micro powder and a binding agent, uniformly mixing in a planetary ball mill, carrying out isostatic compaction to obtain a green body, drying, heating and carrying out heat preservation to obtain the aluminum oxide ceramic material. The prepared aluminum oxide ceramic material has the advantages of light weight, good mechanical property and low volume density.
