The invention relates to the technical field of roads and bridges, and discloses a safety protection mechanism for road bridge pier stud overhaul and maintenance. The mechanism comprises a bridge pier stud; annular slide rails fixedly sleeve the outer walls of the upper and lower parts of the bridge pier stud, and a ladder stand is arranged between the two annular slide rails; the crawling ladder is formed by combining two parallel handrails and a plurality of pedals distributed at equal intervals, and the left end and the right end of each pedal are fixedly connected to the inner side walls of the two handrails. When hands and feet of an operator press a pedal downwards, the pedal is inserted into an arc-shaped insertion cavity of a handrail through a movable shaft and a semicircular support arm, so that a spring is compressed, and at the moment, a safety clamping arm is moved and rotated by the semicircular support arm; therefore, it is guaranteed that the safety lock head ascends and descends from the gap formed by the safety clamping arm and the handrail. In this way, the problem that an operator needs to move the safety lock body manually without climbing one step and the safety is lower is solved.
