The invention discloses a steel rail grinding unit which comprises a grinding motor, wherein the rotating shaft of the motor is connected with a grinding sand wheel; a grinding unit frame is used for mounting a grinding motor; a translation mechanism is arranged between the grinding unit frame and the transverse moving guide column mounting frame and is used for driving the grinding motor to realize transverse moving operation; a lifting mechanism is arranged between the grinding unit frame and the grinding motor, is used for driving the grinding motor to realize lifting and pressing operation, and is mounted on the motor mounting back plate; a motor swing frame is arranged between the lifting mechanism and the grinding motor, and the grinding motor is installed on the motor swing frame; a side pressing mechanism is arranged between the motor mounting back plate and the motor swing frame and is used for driving the grinding motor to realize side pressing operation; and a deflection mechanism is arranged between the lifting mechanism and the grinding unit frame and used for driving the grinding motor to achieve deflection operation. The technical problems that an existing grinding unit is small in deflection angle range, cannot safely pass through a turnout region, and is large in size and complex in structure can be solved.
