The invention discloses a system and a method for shunting roof rainwater. The system comprises a rainwater vertical pipe, a buffer device and a gutter inlet, wherein a water inlet pipe opening of the rainwater vertical pipe communicates with the top-layer face of a target building so as to collect rainwater collected on the top-layer face of the target building, and a water outlet pipe opening of the rainwater vertical pipe communicates with the buffer device so as to guide the rainwater to the buffer device; the buffer device comprises a storage structure and a water outlet structure, the storage structure is used for storing rainwater, and the water outlet structure is used for draining the rainwater; and the gutter inlet communicates with a first downstream pipeline and a second downstream pipeline and is used for distributing rainwater flowing in from the ground to the first downstream pipeline or the second downstream pipeline. The system can be widely applied to the technical field of municipal drainage.
