The invention discloses a magnesium aluminate spinel refractory material and a preparation method thereof, and relates to the technical field of refractory materials, and the preparation method comprises the following steps: weighing raw materials according to formula parts; uniformly mixing the raw materials in a mixer to obtain a mixture A; putting the mixture A into a calcining furnace for heating reaction; taking the heated mixture A out, subjecting to standing cooling and putting into a mixing mill to be ground, and obtaining a mixture B; placing the mixture B in an acid solution to be subjected to acid pickling for 15 min, and obtaining a precipitate; and taking out the precipitate, and drying the precipitate in a drying oven to obtain the magnesium aluminate spinel powder. The magnesium powder, the aluminum powder, the titanium dioxide powder, the diboron trioxide powder and the like are used as raw materials, the mixture of the magnesium aluminate spinel and the titanium diboride is synthesized through combustion and chemical reaction, then the titanium diboride is removed through the acid solution, and the obtained magnesium aluminate spinel is higher in purity, lower in air hole, higher in volume density, smaller in expansion rate and better in stability.
