The invention relates to an existing building reconstruction method. The existing building reconstruction method comprises the following steps that a, support construction is conducted: an underground diaphragm wall is arranged underground at the periphery of an existing building, and waterproof construction is performed on the underground diaphragm wall; b, support construction is conducted, specifically, soil in the underground diaphragm wall is excavated till an existing building bearing platform is exposed, and a horizontal temporary support is constructed between the existing building bearing platform and the underground diaphragm wall; c, excavation construction is conducted, specifically, the soil body below the existing building is excavated out, and opening of a basement space is completed; d, basement construction is conducted, wherein a basement bottom plate, an outer wall and a top plate are poured in the basement space, and the basement bottom plate and the top plate are both integrally poured with existing building bearing piles; and e, soil is backfilled on the outer side of a basement, and the horizontal temporary support is removed. The method has the effects that the available area of the existing building is increased, and the structural stability of the modified existing building is guaranteed.
