The invention discloses a slow-release polycarboxylate superplasticizer and a preparation method thereof.The slow-release polycarboxylate superplasticizer is prepared from, by weight, 200-375 parts of modified starch solution, 100-180 parts of polyether macromonomer, 57-70 parts of first mixture and 39-44 parts of second mixture, the first mixture comprises unsaturated ester small monomer and unsaturated acid small monomer, the second mixture comprises unsaturated ester small monomer and unsaturated acid small monomer, and the third mixture comprises unsaturated ester small monomer and unsaturated acid small monomer. The second mixture includes a reducing agent and a chain transfer agent. The slow-release polycarboxylate superplasticizer has the characteristics of high slump loss resistance and good material adaptability. The main raw material of the slow-release polycarboxylate superplasticizer is the modified starch solution, the modified starch solution is obtained by modifying starch, the starch is renewable, wide in source and low in price, and does not depend on petroleum as a raw material, so that the use amount of the petroleum is greatly reduced.
