The composite setter plate is made of an inert refractory material and a lithium source material, such as, but not limited to, a lithium-filled garnet material having the same or substantially similar composition as a garnet Li-filled solid electrolyte. According to the composite setter plate, evaporation of Li is reduced in the sintering treatment step, and/or loss of Li caused by diffusion of the sintering electrolyte is reduced. Considering that lithium easily diffuses from the solid electrolyte upon heating, the composite setter plate of the present invention can also maintain composition control of the solid electrolyte during sintering.
