The invention relates to an automatic correction device and correction method for steel column butt joint, and the correction device comprises a butt joint support which comprises a first support and a second support which are respectively used for being connected to an upper steel column and a lower steel column; the correction assembly is detachably connected to the butt joint support and comprises an electric lead screw connected between the first support and the second support, a first threaded sleeve arranged on the first support and a plane bearing arranged on the second support; wherein the first support is provided with an expansion hole, the first threaded sleeve is movably arranged on the first support and is aligned to the expansion hole of the first support, one end of the electric screw rod penetrates through the expansion hole of the first support and is in threaded connection with the first threaded sleeve, and the other end of the electric screw rod is sleeved with a driving motor. The driving motor is connected with the plane bearing, and the plane bearing is provided with an expanded ball groove. Vertical correction and plane correction can be achieved without secondary disassembly and assembly, cost is reduced, and efficiency is improved.
