The invention discloses a method for installing an upper cross beam of a bridge tower steel structure, which relates to the technical field of bridge construction, and comprises the following steps: constructing embedded parts, installing a lifting bracket, laying a sliding rail on the top surface of a box girder, placing a sliding plate on the sliding rail, hoisting to a bridge floor by using a crane, splicing into a whole, and falling on the sliding plate. The sliding plate and the upper cross beam are fixedly connected in a welded mode, four lifting lugs are installed on the top face of the upper cross beam, two sets of sliding devices are installed, and the two sets of sliding devices are controlled by one set of system so as to guarantee synchronous sliding. External restriction interference is small; a sliding lifting method is adopted, and high-altitude installation of a large component can be achieved under the condition that a large floating crane cannot enter a site.
