A lithotripsy tool comprising: a tool head (4) supported by a guide device (2) to be linearly displaceable relative to the guide device between a retracted position and an extended position, the distal end of the tool head extending from the guide device to engage a surface to be broken when the tool head is in its extended position; drive means (5, 18, 20) adapted to drive the tool head in a first operation towards a retracted position of the tool head and in a second operation towards an extended position of the tool head, the drive means comprising a drive part mounted on the guide means (5, 20) and a driven part (18), the driven part is mounted on the tool head and engaged by the driving part so as to be linearly displaceable relative to the guiding device when the driving part of the driving device is operated; and a controller adapted to control an operation of the driving device.
