There is described a securing mechanism (100) for securing a vehicle door (26), where the securing mechanism comprises: a locking system (6) comprising a locking element (4) and configured to: lock the vehicle door (26) in a closed position in a locked position of the locking element and unlock the vehicle door (26) in an unlocked position of the locking element; a securing element (2) configured to: in a securing position, prevent movement of the locking element (4) in the first direction from the locked position to the unlocked position, and in a release position, release movement of the locking element (4) in the first direction from the locked position to the unlocked position; and an actuator (30) configured for moving the securing element (2) from the release position to the securing position or/and from the securing position to the release position, in which the securing element (2) is further configured for releasing a movement of the locking element (4) in the second direction in the securing position.
