The invention relates to the field of rainwater collection, and provides a rainwater downpipe which comprises a downpipe body, a water filtering device and an overflow pipe, the downpipe body is suitable for being vertically arranged, the water filtering device is installed in the downpipe body and close to a water outlet of the downpipe body, and the overflow pipe is communicated with the downpipe body; and in the vertical direction, a height difference h0 is formed between the communication part of the overflow pipe and the downpipe body and the water filtering device. The invention also provides a method for performing initial rainwater treatment by using the rainwater downpipe, initial rainwater is discharged into the downpipe body, a water level with a set height is formed above the water filtering device, and the initial rainwater is discharged from the water outlet of the downpipe body after being filtered by the water filtering device under the water level pressure; rainwater higher than the water level is discharged through the overflow pipe. Initial rainwater is filtered through the water filtering device; the pressure generated by the height difference is used for providing power for water treatment; when the rainfall is large, the rainfall is drained through the overflow pipe, and water accumulation is avoided.
