POWERED LATCH ASSEMBLY
The invention relates to a powered latch assembly. In particular, the present invention relates to a powered latch assembly for a door of a motor vehicle, the powered latch assembly comprising: a ratchet configured for movement between a striker capture position and a striker release position wherein the ratchet is biased toward the striker release position; and a pawl configured to move between a ratchet holding position in which the pawl holds the ratchet in the striker capture position and a ratchet release position in which the pawl releases the ratchet to the striker release position. The power actuator can be energized to move the pawl from the ratchet retaining position to the ratchet release position, where the multi-stage reduction mechanism operably connects the output of the power actuator to the pawl to provide a first release torque on the pawl during normal use, and a larger second release torque is provided on the pawl during emergency use.
