The invention discloses a coal mine slurry filling thickening agent and a preparation method thereof. The coal mine slurry filling thickening agent comprises the following components in parts by weight: 100-200 parts of hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose, 300-500 parts of polyacrylamide, 200-300 parts of a polycarboxylic acid dispersing agent and 50-100 parts of attapulgite. The thickening agent does not change the original components of the coal mine slurry filling material, and is convenient for large-scale disposal of mine gangue solid waste by slurry with 20-75% of gangue content. The thickening agent can be used as an additive, the mixing amount of the thickening agent does not exceed 3% of the mass of solids in slurry, the mixing amount is small, and the thickening agent is economical. The slurry concentration can be obviously improved, the thickening effect of the slurry can be obviously observed by naked eyes, the gangue particle precipitation resistance of the slurry is further improved, and long-distance transportation of the gangue slurry is facilitated.
