The invention belongs to the technical field of coal mine gob-side entry retaining and gob filling, and particularly relates to a high-water-content material and a preparation method thereof. The high-water-content material comprises a material A, a material B and an auxiliary material, the material A comprises cement; the material B comprises gypsum and lime; the cement comprises one or more of 725 cement, 525 cement or 425 cement; the auxiliary material comprises one or more of sodium carbonate, lithium carbonate, citric acid, boric acid, bentonite or rubber powder. The preparation method comprises the following steps: mixing a material A, a first auxiliary material and water to obtain a first mixture; mixing the material B, a second auxiliary material and water to obtain a second mixture; mixing the first mixture and the second mixture, and stirring to obtain a mixed solution; and pouring the mixed solution into a mold, standing, solidifying and demolding. By adjusting the proportion of the ingredients, the problems that the solidification time is short after single slurry of an existing high-water-content material or ultrahigh-water-content material is stirred, the solidification time is long after the slurry is mixed and stirred, and the final strength is low are solved.
