The invention provides an automatic flood discharge system for a daily regulation hydropower station and a control method thereof, and relates to the technical field of hydropower stations. The system comprises a background control center, a background server, a database, a data acquisition system and a calculation module, the background control center comprises a gate opening control module, a monitoring module and an abnormity alarm module, and the gate opening control module is used for controlling opening and closing of a gate of a daily regulation hydropower station so as to control flood discharge. Various information acquired by the data acquisition system is processed by the calculation module and then sent to the database for storage, and each level of node of the data acquisition system is correspondingly provided with an edge calculation chip for preliminary calculation. Through the edge computing chip, the monitoring module and the like, the daily regulation hydropower station can be accurately monitored and checked in real time by units at all levels, manual judgment is not needed, and the system is more convenient, intelligent, efficient, safer and high in automatic feedback fluency.
