The invention discloses an in-service expressway local structure defect portal frame type sign structure reinforcing method. The method comprises a reinforcing method for partial overall structure instability of a portal frame type sign structure and a transformation method for a local sign panel without steel pipe reinforcement. The reinforcing method for the overall structure instability of the partial portal type sign structure is modified in a welding and hoop mode and comprises the following steps that A1, in order to reduce welding, an upper inclined rod support, a lower inclined rod support and a steel plate are welded in advance, and anti-corrosion treatment of a steel structure is conducted; a2, a worker completes reinforcement and transformation of upper and lower inclined rod supports which are partially lost through bolt welding on site; according to the method, structural defect portal-type signs of different structural forms can be reinforced and transformed, the portal-type signs do not need to be integrally disassembled and returned to a factory, workers can conduct construction on site easily during transformation, construction can be completed only by closing a traffic lane locally for a short time on site, and the method is more convenient.
