The invention discloses a local structure defect reinforcing device and method for an expressway portal frame type sign, the local structure defect reinforcing device comprises a sign panel, an upper cross beam, a lower cross beam and two supporting rods, the sign panel is fixedly connected with a second framework which is transversely arranged, the second framework is fixedly connected with a first framework which is longitudinally arranged, and the number of the supporting rods is two. The upper cross beam and the lower cross beam are fixedly arranged between the supporting rods; the peripheries of the upper cross beam and the lower cross beam are fixedly connected to the first framework. The method comprises the following steps: S1, reinforcing a panel; s2, bottom supporting and reinforcing; s3, newly adding and reinforcing; s4, reinforcing the cross beam; and S5, assembling. The maximum stress of the identification panel after reinforcement and transformation is 190 MPa, compared with 473 MPa, the maximum stress slightly exceeds the strength limit of an original material, the maximum displacement is 243 mm, the value is reasonable, the maximum stress is reduced by 59.8% compared with the original stress, the maximum displacement is reduced by 89% compared with the original displacement, the transformation effect is quite remarkable, and the strength of the identification panel is obviously improved.
