The invention belongs to the technical field of gypsum building materials and retarders, and particularly relates to an efficient alkali-resistant gypsum retarder and a preparation method thereof. According to the gypsum retarder, acrylic acid, a polyoxyethylene ether monomer and hydroxy acrylic resin are mixed to form a retarder component with medium and low molecular weight, the plasticity of gypsum mortar is improved, if a later use environment is a strong alkaline environment, through hydrolysis of ester bonds in hydroxyethyl acrylate/hydroxypropyl acrylate in a system under an alkaline condition, the plasticity of the gypsum mortar is improved, and the plasticity of the gypsum mortar is improved. Acid is formed again, and a continuous retarding effect is provided for the gypsum. The hydroxy acrylic resin, the sodium amino trimethylene phosphonate, the prepared initiator and the prepared chain transfer agent have certain enhancement effects on the mechanical properties such as delayed coagulation, fracture resistance and compression resistance of the gypsum.
